Expect the Best

I have a little fetish with looking at real estate. I love to walk through houses and just browse the MLS to see what's out there. There are a handful of houses/neighborhoods that I have fallin' in love with and dream of being in.
Last night while on the MLS during one of my browsing frenzies, I saw a house I have  admired from the outside for 10 years. This house was in a neighborhood my parents had lived in. I remember going on jogs and wanting to stop and knock on the door to ask if I could see the inside. In fact one time I actually stopped and walked towards the house, then chickened out thinking they would think I was out of my mind! The house is all one level a creamy stucco color with a Spanish influence. The red tile roof  goes  beautiful  with  the big double doors and wooden shutters.
Oh I was so excited to finally see the inside. Would it meet my imagined expectations? Have I loved this house for nothing? Josh was near by and I told him briefly about the house and he remembered it( when we lived in Boise we drove around many times to look at neighborhoods/houses we liked ). Browsing through the pictures I had a big smile on my face. The house in not quite as I imagined but still beautiful. A big entry way with wooden beams in family room, a decadent bathroom, and a fabulous back porch.
Our dreams at times are not quite as we imagined them to be, but still beautiful. We can always hope for the best and expect the best. When are dreams seem to be squished out of the picture push them back in.  We should love our dreams.Keep dreaming ...
I think one day I'll own that house or maybe one of the others!

I HATE...

Momma always said hate is a strong word and to be used seldom, if at all.  Since we moved to Tucson our family has had to adjust to the differences down here in the south. Over all we've done a wonderful job! But there is one thing I cannot  build up a tolerance for....Crickets! I hate them! At first thought ,no big deal get a bug guy out to take care of it. After having the bug guy out 3 times and hearing their loud obnoxious chirping still blaring in the evening, it has grown to hate!  They're not like the crickets back home that are small and quietly singing, they're loud like a screaming child jumping around to get away from you smacking them.
Does God expect me to be tolerant of all things??? He may, but maybe he gave us crickets to understand hate.If we loved everything how would we know hate? Without hate , there would be no love, right? At least that what's my mind is saying to justify my evil thoughts upon them. Now I can sympathise with the Egyptians for dealing with those locusts. Maybe if I repent there will be fewer in the future ;)

Tradition

Oh I love Halloween! The crisp fall weather in the air(though the high today was like 105)but I mean usually. I have a lot of fond memories with friends and family dressing up and getting loads of candy. My favorite costume was when I was a 9th grader I dressed up as Oscar the Grouch. One of my friends was having a party at her house, we got low on candy so all of us(around 15-20) went trick or treating for two streets. Most of the adults were giving us funny looks but we just thought we had an amazing idea cause we ended up with a ton of candy!

I love how one day out of the year you have a free pass to look anyway you really want. Surprisingly the way you act ,as long as it is not criminal, gets a pass as well. It's a form of expression. A way to draw attention to yourself or just to have fun with the friends you hold dear. A night to freak yourself or others out. Whatever the reason may be to celebrate,  it's a night we repeat from past years as a tradition.

I could have learned it at some point but  I have no idea where and when Halloween started. Why do we follow traditions? How can we start or replace a tradition to enhance our relationship with our loved ones? Can we pull ideas from other people's traditions to enrich our own?  Remember when you do create one make sure it's good, and it will stick!

Perception is Reality

There are multiple sides to one story. The black and white of life shows the  right and wrong to every situation. Or is it that way? There is gray that lies in between and all of us have difference of opinion of what can be considered gray.
I believe perception is reality. You could be on the dance floor ripping it up to Micheal Jackson thinking your the next star on So You Think You Can Dance when Joe over there is thinking how much of a fool you are and how he hates the loud music. Our perceptions is what is real. That is why the stories of life are told in so many ways. In order to understand others perceptions what can we do?
Respect and appreciate our differences. Get to know others and focus on the similarities. Seek to understand. A quote from John C. Maxwell that applies:

The least important word: I
The most important word: We
The two most important word: Thank you
The three most important word: All is forgiven
The four most important word: What is your opinion?
The five most important word: You did a good job.
The six most important word: I want to understand you better.

What I Learned On Vacation

While being on vacation this last week I noticed my journaling has lacked the "thought process." Only telling the facts of the day and hinting at what I thought about it. I'm glad to be home where I hope to squeeze my creative juices back into gear. I've promised myself no more driving long hauls unless I'm awake and alone(which to me means no children)! Not that I didn't have fun juggling " Mom I have to pee! Mom when are we going to get there? Mom I'm hungry, NO I'm starving! " And then the random screams from Mia not understanding why she was still in her car seat. Though the thought process has seen better days I still had an opportunity to process life. Here are a few of the things I discovered while on vacation:

Learn all you can about your weaknesses, not necessarily to become strengths but to me more aware.

Don't plan every little detail for a vacation, just a outline.

To uptain faith we need to to be obedient in thought and action.

Say thank you if someone compliments you even if you don't feel you deserve it.

Remember your wedding day or first kiss with your honey.

We all judge. Are we being too harsh with each other?

It's really nice to have a big family, as long as it's not me having the kids!

The more financial books I read, the more curious I get.

It's a great thing to share our knowledge with others, and hope the naysayers aren't listening.

Communication is key and not to take it for granted.

Everyone needs a hug, go hug someone in need!

If you need to repeat something, make it loud and clear(with a smile:).

Sit back and people watch, you'll learn a lot.

If your little boy needs to go pee, it means NOW!

Thank heaven for Binky's!

I love basements.

Take action today on the things you've been thinking about for months.

Peanut Thai Noodle Recipe

This looks really good. I think I'm going to try it in the next couple of weeks.

Peanut Thai Noodle
12 ounces thin rice noodles
2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
1/4 cup peanut butter, creamy or chunky ( add 2Tb more if you like more nutty)
3 tablespoons reduced-sodium soy sauce ( if you only have regular use 2Tb)
2 cups fresh or frozen sugar snap peas, thawed if frozen

Salt
Freshly ground black pepper
Juice of 1 lime
2 Tb fresh grated ginger(optional)

2tsp honey

-Soak the rice noodles in hot water for 10 minutes; drain and set aside.
-In a medium saucepan, whisk together the chicken broth, peanut butter, vinegar, ginger and soy sauce. Set pan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a simmer. Add noodles and the sugar snap peas; cook 2 to 3 minutes or until peas are crisp-tender and liquid is absorbed. Add honey
-Remove from heat; stir in the cilantro. Season to taste with salt and black pepper. Drizzle the lime juice over the top.

YOGA

This month is national yoga month. My first yoga experience was at the YMCA when I was 16. I remember having the back of  my legs and butt up against a wall with my back flat on the floor.A good portion of the time I thought " You want me to do what?!" Though I thought my body couldn't contort to half of the positions it turned out to be a good experience. My body had a sense of peace it's the first time I ever really meditated without thought or purpose, just to relax.
Since then I been to a handful of different classes and teachers. From Yoga I've learned more about my body, the way it it centers itself and how to breathe differently. I love feeling energy from  others in the room and  having some quiet time too. Never give up just going once, it  takes time to get use to the positions. Yoga is something you can  do on your own too. I'll do it at my club off to the side sometimes. If people watch, let them! I like to listen to music that helps concentration or is inspirational.

Here are my top 5 reasons to do yoga

1. ENERGY- When you work on your breathing, you gain energy. Breathing correctly is like food for your bodies energy source. In yoga you can enhance this by having your body in certain positions.
0.

2.STRENGTH/PAIN RELIEF- Strength of your muscles, immune system, nervous system, digestive system, respiratory system, circulatory system, reproductive system, etc. And it improves flexibility. It has been know to relieve aches in joints and tendons.

3. PEACE-Yoga meditations promotes a greater awareness and appreciation of the present moment, which calms the mind and allows the peace deep within to surface. It also helps relieve stress.

4.CONCENTRATION- The requirement of many Yoga meditations to keep the mind focused on a single object or mantra (sound vibrations), helps to dramatically increase your power of concentration and focused attention.

5.INNER STRENGTH- It provides you to connect on a deepend level with yourself, God and others.

If you haven't tried it, this month is a great time to get going. A great pose to get started with is:

Sukhasana-(helps relieves tiredness in hips, straitens spine, and good for deep breathing)
Sit down on the floor or a Yoga Mat.
Cross your legs, placing your feet below your knees.
Cup your hands around your knees.
Keep your head and body straight.

Appreciate What's Around You

Moving to a new climate has had it's adjustments, but with that comes beauty too. Living In Tucson has pushed us to discover and explore our surroundings. Not knowing how long we'll live here allows us to squeeze in all the adventures we can handle.

When we found out we were moving all we heard about was the weather. "It's so HOT!," " Do you know how crazy the summer is?", " Winter's are great , but ..." Sometimes I would intercede, "Ya I heard about it. "

In all honesty having survived the first summer of having  pony tails everyday, spending the only outside time  at 7 o'clock in the morning, and a good majority of our days in the pool I can say, yes it is hot but I still liked it! No one told me about the great stuff that we discovered: the sunsets of purple and pink, monsoons that flood the earth while the lightening and thunder is shaking the ground, a beach that is only 4 hours away and is as warm a bath water, major attractions in less than a days drive and the wonderful creatures that Kyrick gets to discover on a daily basis.

The creatures have been the most surprising in good and bad ways(mostly good). Just this week we have caught 2 caterpillars, a bat rested for the day in our outdoor entry way, and the neighbor down the street had a rattle snake in his yard. Not so good, but boy did Ky just beam( ironic that we were telling him just a few days before about the danger of rattle snakes) because he got to see one. We get to see frogs, huge beetles, and lizards all throughout the week. It's a little boys heaven. The other day Ky said" Mom I love it here. I get to capture so many frogs and lizards!"

It's been fun. Of course we miss good old Boise. Josh told me the other day how much he missed it and hopes to call it home again. But for now we are appreciating what we have around us. We should look for what we love about the place we are living and take on a new adventure. Like a park you've never been too, or seeing something old in a new light!

Learning from the Old Challege to create the New Challenge

So I've begun the New Challenge and it's now time to get back on track. I'm excited to freshen up on blogging and hope to add more personal stuff this time round. While taking a break I learned the need to stay motivated. I did really well in some areas and failed completely in others. I guess it's  fair to say the I need more than 21 days to form and KEEP a habit.
The last challenge remined me of  my love for writing(goals, personal, fiction, blogging). The creative juices were flowing and I have some great ideas for books and goal setting and completion were at my highest ever. I love working toward a goal and seeing how far I've come.
It reminds me of training for my 1st half marathon last year. It seemed impossible at the time just had a baby, was out of shape, never was a runner. I had all the excuses in the book. Being inspired by the Biggest Loser I told myself if that guy can  do a full marathon ( Ron Morelli) I can surely do a half. It took small successes pushing myself to get out the door everyday to run/workout. To tell my body that it could do it, that it was strong. My mind set little goals along the paths I jogged, just make it to the stop sign, one foot in front of the other to make it up a  hill.
We are capable of more than we think. In this New Challenge I hope to push my mind to set and accomplish goals that bring me to another level of thinking. To work from incapable to able and work in progress. Inside of all of us is more. More to give, more to share, more to love, and more to learn.

Feeling Special

In high school my English teacher Mr Hiner was so different than the other teachers. It may have been the slight favoritism he gave me, or his happy eyes that smiled when he laughed softly. He was very kind, soft spoken and wise in his years. His last year before retirement was my last year in high school. On holidays he would give us a coloring page just like when we were in grade school. I use to color the most bizarre pictures for him,  the most memorable picture was a  Santa Claus that was colored like a rainbow he had candy cane cheeks. He always hung my pictures on the wall, a prize that not many people got more than once. Then later I asked him why he hung up my pictures so often,  he was color blind and mine were the most different and he said he enjoyed them the most. Ticked, I continued to color crazy patterns on our holiday sheets.

In theatre we would get behind on projects, I had permission from him to leave class to help with the sets. There were a couple of kids who struggled with reading, I was allowed to read to them out in the hall. There was an understanding that my time could be used better elsewhere as long as the privilege didn't get abused. Toward the end I told him that shouldn't retire that we needed more teachers like him: Teachers who cared, who saw the bigger picture, and understood what learning was really about. A compliment never forgotten came from him ,"Tawnya, if there were more students like you, I wouldn't retire." He told me I was unique and gifted and I believed him.

How often do we hear from others or ourselves that there is greatness within? What is our subconscious telling us? What do others say that effect our moods? Do we look for the good in all circumstances? You cannot go far beyond the picture you have of yourself. Change your thought process. For one week only have positive things to think and say. You can't think good and bad all in the same thought process, so make sure it's GOOD. Do your best to find the best qualities of your spouse, children and friends? Be conscious of what you are telling others. Are you telling them that they always do this and that wrong or that you appreciate their efforts and find an understanding? Find what is special about those who surround you and treat them that way, Including Yourself!

"Make every thought, every fact, that comes into your mind, pay you a profit. Make it work and produce for you. Think of things not as they are but as they might be. Don't merely dream---create!" Maxwell Maltz

Character

How is ones character created? What are the core ingredients of our inner self?  Piece by piece over a life time of successes and failures we mold ourselves into what we hope is of value. There is no magic pill that "completes us" into super moms or wonder woman. And really when you peel back the layers ,who is there?

It's funny what staring into a mirror might do. Do you see the surface, like a blemish taking over your face? Or can you look deeper? Those eyes, what are they telling you? I've done this throughout my life's in different stages. It's hard at first but then you learn something within. Look at yourself and say three positive things that you like about you, while smiling. Look straight into your eyes and tell yourself what you want to become. When I was younger I liked me but lacked total love for my body( still struggle!). So I started to wink at myself  in the mirror before I left the house, and say" Your a Hottie!" It helped my realize that it was important for me to find worth, to be confident in my skin. Find out who is staring back at you and give her that compliment you're always telling others!

" What happens to the quality of our lives when we value power over purpose; getting over giving; materialism over humanitarianism? There's no short answer, but if there were, it wouldn't be pretty. Forsaking our values has given birth to a crisis of epidemic proportions. The truth is, many of us have allowed materialistic values to take center stage and push moral values into the standing-room-only section. Today far too many children are being raised without a basic set of values... they will probably end up taking from, rather than contributing to, society. And when this happens we will all lose, because their gifts have never been harvested and shared with others." Brian Souza

Belief

Do you remember when you found out something that you always believed in wasn't true! Feeling heart broken and in disbelief ,literally, the magic slips away.

When I was a teenager I had a discussion with someone about fireflies thinking they were fiction. Somewhere down the line I had categorized it with all the other mythical creatures that were not real. I couldn't believe it! Finding out was like winning a ticket to go to Willy Wonka's Factory, and my belief renewed.
A few years later I was back east in New York at a house in the middle of the woods. As was at a pool party, when the sun set I saw little glowing flickers in a distance. "Are those fireflies!?" I asked like a little kid wanting candy. "Ya, just wait til later, there will be a ton." one of my friends said. That night was amazing! Surrounded by fireflies whizzing my me I reached out to touch them. They were real!

Our beliefs are what we make them! Faith is what propels us. We choose ours dreams, or do they choose us? What is real depends on who you ask. So keep believing!:)

The Lighthouse by Shirley Mozelle

It's true that light
is the source,
a lamp inside
that lights the soul,
but it is the eye itself,
 a focused lens,
that bends and shapes
 and makes the beam.

Divine

Divine is defined as something of God, something that is sacred. Life has often been quoted as a divine plan where we are the keepers of destiny. Discovering divinity in our everyday life is what can ignite us to finish the undone pieces.  Encourage ourselves to be more understanding and to see divinity in all people. The more we are bonded to God, the more free we become!

" We are unfinished and perhaps a little scrappy but within us all is a beautiful piece of work" Tawnya(me!)

I came across this recipe and it looked good. I'm always trying to find good summer recipe with little cooking cause it's so dang hot down here.

Veggie Crepes:

1/3 cup reduced-fat sour cream

1/2 cup chopped fresh chives, divided, plus more for garnish

3 tablespoons low-fat milk

2 teaspoons lemon juice

3/4 teaspoon salt, divided

1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil

2 cups chopped zucchini

1 1/4 cups chopped green beans

1 cup fresh corn kernels

1 cup part-skim ricotta cheese

1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese

1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

4 9-inch “ready-to-use” crepes, or make your own
Preparation

Stir sour cream, 1/4 cup chives, milk, lemon juice and 1/4 teaspoon salt in a small bowl until combined. Set aside.

Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add zucchini, green beans and corn and cook, stirring, until beginning to brown, 6 to 8 minutes. Reduce heat to low; stir in ricotta, Monterey Jack, the remaining 1/4 cup chives, the remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper. Cook, stirring gently, until the cheese is melted, 1 to 2 minutes. Remove from the heat.

To roll crepes, place one on a piece of parchment or wax paper (or leave it on the piece of plastic separating the crepes in the package). Spoon one-fourth of the vegetable-cheese mixture (about 3/4 cup) down the center of the crepe. Use the paper (or plastic) to help you gently roll the crepe around the filling. Place the crepe seam-side down on a dinner plate. Repeat with the remaining crepes and filling. Serve each crepe topped with 2 tablespoons of the reserved sauce and more chives, if desired.

Tips & Notes

Tips: To remove kernels, stand a cob on its stem end in a bowl and slice them off with a sharp, thin-bladed knife.

“Ready-to-use” crepes are fast and convenient. Look for them in the produce section of the market or near refrigerated tortillas.

A HOT situation

I've been busy this last week. Driving over 24rs in a 72hr time frame is wearing. It felt good to have some alone time drifting in and out of thought. Through out this week it dawned on me that our thoughts really do rule! At one point during my drive episode I was stuck on a freeway for nearly 2 hours moving as slow as the DMV does on the last day of the month. It was miserable in the middle of the Utah desert where the temperature was reaching 120 F (according the couple who inched back and forth next to me) and the air conditioning wasn't working moving that slow. There was nothing I could do but wait...No control. Then when  my eyes started to roll , and all patience went out the door a 1/2 mile back I realized what I was grateful for.

I was so grateful I didn't bring my 15 month old daughter on this trip. My friend contemplating going with me and her newborn, wow that prevented disaster! When the air conditioning was running, it was definitely heaven sent. Before the trip I was contemplating taking our little Toyota (that is known to over heat in stop and go traffic) for better gas mileage. Last minute I changed my mind and took the SUV, again thanking the Lord.

Things could have been worse and really there was nothing life threatening. Why is it that when we know we have no control over certain situations, we feel we are beat or lose patience? We do have control, just over number one! Lesson learned! And more than likely be relearned at some point in my life. Constantly changing my thought process from BOO-HOO!! to WHA-HOO!! or WHEWW...

Let It Go----And Forgive

How good are you at forgiveness? What kind of behaviour do you display when you are hurt?
Revenge, Being a Victim, Entitlement, Blame, Negative Thoughts?

We all have a healing process. Through time are we able to move on and let it go? Our energy is like our most precious treasures, we should  guard it and protect it from harm. Our thoughts harbor emotion that can clearly be displayed in our body language and aura. We can get so worked up planning our revenge or playing the blame game, that the sweet things in life literally pass by. When we learn to let go we free ourselves of the heavy burdens and guilt. We are not asked to forget. Remembering makes us more resilient to what comes our way.

There was a time in my life where I needed to forgive someone without having the apology I wanted. I'm sure many of us have been in this situation. It took me to say to myself that I didn't want this feeling anymore. My decision to rise above the crap was not easy at first. Was I angry, sure! Did I deserve an explanation and apology, For Sure! Who was it really hurting? I decided to work on letting go, controlling my thoughts. Giving myself the A-okay to move on. The pain was turned  into peace.

Forgiving ourselves is a whole different can of worms to open. We beat ourselves about the same things over and over.Remember that life is an experiment Our decisions have consequences, every outcome it different.  Reach down and pull up them boots! Rise above the crap, don't sabotage yourself and grab for those cookies!     Recognize, Resolve and Release!

Bucket Lists

A couple of years ago I wrote a list of things I wanted to do before I turned 41. At first it started as a joke, tossing around crazy plans. Then ideas started to flow and I started writing my dreams Well to make a long story short the list got shuffled around and I stored it in a journal that I had half way forgotten about. About a month ago I found the list and while reading it was surprised to have completed 8 of them. Just think what would have been accomplished if the list  had been in front of my face everyday.

So what is on your Bucket List? Where had you always wanted to go?What talent do you want to create? What crazy thing has been in the back of your mind? Don't think about the BUT'S... But if this was right I could.... Just start writing, even the crazy stuff.

Creating Better Order

At the end of the day exhaustion sets in. Only to find out when you glace around the room you have laundry piled up, dishes scattered, piles of junk mail waiting to be read, food finger prints all over the wall, and you dodge stepping on the toys  that make noises so you don't have to listen to them again! So how can we get organized while still hold down camp everyday.

Creating order into our life takes effort. Starting small is a way we can be productive without being overwhelmed. Here are some ways that can help a little when getting started:

1.Making Lists-- This is so important , this can help a day go from disaster to smooth sailing. Make a weekly dinner and errand calendar.

2. Make your bed-- It's simple and you feel better.

3. Living Room---- Clean up the living room before going to bed each a night. Make this a family chore. Take five or ten minutes to do a sweep through the living room and put everything back where it belongs.

4.Clean up After Dinner--- We all want to sit down and relax but it really helps when this too is made into a family event and it takes pressure off you.

5. Only Touch Mail Once or Twice--- Right when you get the mail stand by a trash can so you can get rid of the junk. Then put it into two piles/files bills or other. Make a time to go through that mail.

6. Make a Homework/Learning time---Turn off the television and eliminate any other distractions. It's important to set a standard of what you expect form them. This is a great time to find out about there day and help them out.

7. Big Piles/Projects---If you have a big project schedule a time.ONLY put in enough energy and effort to achieve what really matters to you – don't waste your time or energy. Don't over organize.

8.Pick Clothes Out the Night Before---You will save time and will help keep the drama to a minimum.

Arrange your life around things that are important to your success and satisfaction. Don't fret over the small stuff. And have a way to confidently know what is small stuff and what is big stuff. Just choose one of these to work on then keep adding.

YOU!

I've discovered that there is a book or article on everything!!! I've known this but since doing research on a few subjects my mind has been riding on a roller coaster. I can't believe how much information we have in every little corner. With  many opinions I've adopted a take it or leave it attitude. We are not all that different wanting similar stuff but it different forms . We want to succeed in life and hope that through our journey we learn and overcome the pitfalls. We want love but not just the word we want to be cherished and liked. The joy we find , we want others to have. Every book I've read seems to have the same tone( the subjects vary), the same solution. It's that pretty little face that is staring at you when you look at a mirror! YOU!

The only way we can become successful, happy, a champion, a better friend, a calmer momma, a better writer is allowing ourselves to be free of our fears. I love the quote "Freedom isn't free." It's not free. We'll have to go through A LOT  to be released by all the garbage that has been pumped through us. We have to get through the coal pressing to become the diamond. And a very HOT confident diamond I may add! It's all up to you to change.

Second --Your Thoughts
Third--The Attitude
Fourth -- Your Actions

The Perfect Day

If you could do anything tomorrow what would it be? Imagine your perfect day.

When would you wake up? Where are you? What are the smells around you? What are you wearing? What activities are you going to do? Who are you with?

Take a time out and figure out how you can make that perfect day come to a reality. Write out a rough draft of what that day holds for you. Close your eyes and picture your perfect day in detail. Think of the small stuff like the color of your favorite flowers, if they're animals around, or maybe the heat of the sun is a part of your day. Then share that idea to whom you're spending it with and make a plan on how it's going to happen.

It doesn't have to happen all at once at first. Start with taking the small details  of your perfect day and incorporating them into an average day. When you see or create a part from that day take thought, and be grateful. Then when you have prepared and planned you can have that perfect day. Remember all the other days in our life can have perfect moments. Look for those moments!

Resistance is GOOD!

Weight training is very important in having our bodies change. We can do aerobics all we want but we must have resistance training in  order to increase the rate your body burns fats. I discovered this when I did kickboxing in my early 20's . I remember coming out of class completely hammered. The whole class was hitting against the bag and half the time we had our neighbor holding the bag for more resistance. Our teacher taught us how to isolate our muscles , maintain focus, and use that energy to kick the bag's butt. I have never had anything change my body like kickboxing did.

How do we start? Where do we start? Like everything else, start small. Make sure you don't get into the rut of only doing the same old 5lb bells forever. To really change you need more weight with every set, then gradually going down in weight with more reps. Finally, push yourself where you feel like arms or legs are turning into jelly and those muscles are on fire. Do this for 40 min, and 3 times a week and you will see results.

The parts of the body to begin on depends on you. Exercises that are very effective for strength training are:
Squats with a body bar
Lunges( I hate them but they work!)
 Bench press
Triceps( those sisters need all the help they can get!)
Arm curls
And of course hitting and kicking a bag( it's great for releasing tension or anger)!

There are  many so just begin with a few and then keeping adding on.  Pump it up!!!

Renewal

When do you feel renewed, at peace and refreshed?

Going into the mountains, breathing the crisp air and listening to the sounds of nature centers me.   Watching the sunset on the beach rolled up in blanket is calming. Things, places, and people effect our outlook and energy. We need  to find what renews us and be around those who support us. Think of a time when you felt vibrant. What were your surroundings like? What kind of music inspires you? Where is your favorite place to be? Do you need to forgive someone? Are you setting and accomplishing goals? Are you accepting of others and yourself?

Every second we can renew ourselves from the previous moments before. Find what restores you.

Taking Charge of Our Spending Habits

When I see a great deal it is hard for me to pass it up. I pride myself on being a bargain shopper and love love love to find a Smokin' Deal! I love playing the guessing game( Guess how much I spent?) with my husband when he gets home. At times I end up buying something I may not need or even want! Gifts, Right!? Saving money is important but we must make sure we stay within a budget that we have planned. Controlling our shopping habits can help us maintain balance.

One of my goals for a time period was to not spend any money unless it was food, bills or gas. This was a challenge! I noticed myself unconsciously finding deals that were hard to pass up. I love the skit on SNL "Don't Buy Stuff You Cannot Afford." It's hilarious, check it out sometime. But really sometimes it's that easy. Don't get into the trap "Well I can afford it." We need to be aware of what we are spending. So how can we stay aware of our spending habits? And make good choices? Here are some tips---

-When you go shopping, use a list
-Give yourself a budget for food, clothing, household items, etc...
-If you're temped to buy something ask yourself if you can live without it.
-Don't give into advertising. They are sucking you in for a reason.
-Say no when you don't need it! A salesperson purpose is to give you the info., you make the decision .
-Resist the last minute items by the checkout stands.
-Use cash if your credit card is too tempting
-Remind yourself of what you already have and enjoy it.
-Write down how much you spend every week.
-Buy food in season and plan meals around what is on sale
-Keep receipts in case you return any items( and know the stores policy for returning).
-If you buy clothes that you haven't wore in 3-4weeks, return it( unless it's for a special occasion).
-Last but not least STAY within your budget!!!

Putting Yourself Out There

We had the opportunity to hang out with new friends and get to know more people around this area. Putting myself out there to get to know people has been fun. But at times I'm still trying to figure out where we fit in with our new found friends and if we belong.
My husband and I like to call it "Couple Dating." We ask each other questions to see if we're compatible and have any of the same interests. Sometimes you find yourselves in awkward conversations and weird silences. Other times you feel like this couple was a match made in heaven and when you get home you can't stop talking about how cool they are. It's funny how you're comparing notes with your husband when you get home. You tell him I liked so and so but those others guys I'm not sure sure about. In a round about way your dating all over again but with a couple.
Moving to a new area has been an adjustment. We have really had to put ourselves out there to meet people. It can be hard , but you never know what kind of friendships you can develop until you try. Try and meet someone new this week.

Half is Lookin' Good

I'm reading a really great book, Become Who You Were Born to Be  by Brian Souza. I've learned a lot and have used some great quotes from it. It has inspired a lot of my writing. Here is something I read today.

" Sometimes a half looks pretty good: Half a glass of wine is better than none. Half a chance is better than no chance at all. Half a dollar certainly beats a dime! But in the things that really matter in life, half just isn't good enough.

Half a plan, half an ethical standard, half a commitment--they're worth absolutely nothing. Try this: "Hey sweetie. I love you half the time," and see how that goes over!

Will we give a halfhearted effort but expect a full return? Will we let our fears, or distractions, or plain old blindness lead us to make only token investments? Our days should be invested, not just squandered or endured."

Not giving our all is difficult. Our fear of failure or not knowing the journey, hinders taking full action. So next time lets do it all or nothing! But choose to do it ALL! ;)

Happiness begins in being Present

+
Having a beginning and ending to each day is a gift. We have a clean start every morning to decide what is going to happen until our eyes close that night. Living in the present is being aware and involved in what is going on around us. Things that can hinder us from living in the moment  are what I like to call  The Unknowns . We worry while dwelling on the past we cannot change, and the future that is yet to happen.  Our focus is lost and  we blame ourselves or others. Out of pity we end up playing the I wish game. I wish I had a new job...I wish I could lose weight...I wish .... The list goes on.
Being in the present is learning from our past and applying it in the now positively. Life is designed to give us what we earn , not what we want. Being grateful and thanking those around us helps us live in the now. When we listen with intent of listening and not replying, we understand others better. So the next time you talk with your significant other, boss, or children practice living in the now. Don't let your thoughts control you and keep them mindful. Really work hard to being in the now!

If you worry about what might be, and wonder what might have been, you will ignore what is.” -Unknown

Relaxing the Stress Away

We all need a to relax even if it's just 15 minutes. Here are a few things that can help our bodies and minds relax
1. Deep Breathing  It helps relax muscles, mellow your heart rate, and help to lose weight.
2. Walking
3. Stretching
4. Completely clearing your mind. I find this hard. I had a yoga instructor who focused a 10 min. portion of  class just doing this. Hard but I felt totally calm and relaxed after.
5.Working on a hobby(this would be stressful for me but I know it works with others): sewing, crafting, cooking, etc...
6.Taking a warm bath or a hot shower
7. Cleaning( sing while you clean). The experts say that you you do something that's routine that helps relax you
8 Praying without distraction
9.Using Essential Oils. Using lavender is said to increases the alpha waves in the brain which triggers the brain to relax. Jasmine is used to sharpen the mind and senses. Grapefruit oil is to help with those who struggle with difficult emotions or resort to comfort eating.
10. Reading/Writing
11. Massage--Let's face it we would like this one everyday if we could!!!!
12. Listening to Nature( water, birds, thunderstorm)
13. Watching a campfire
14. Laughter. Go to a comedy play, or watch a favorite movie that makes you laugh.
15. Hugs and Cuddling

Looking For Value In Everyone

Everyone know someone who always wears a huge grin on their face. They eyes light up a room ,their laughter is infectious. You want to be around them to help lighten your mood. I had a friend like this in high school. I honestly didn't know anyone who didn't like her. I thought how can someone always be this happy and still normal? She had her fair share of bad days like the rest of us but she handled them far better then anyone I knew.  Getting to know her better I  discovered that she didn't let her environment effect her behavior towards others. She understood that smiling and laughter was more useful then scowling, being judgemental or  being bitter. She had a gift with seeing value in everyone. She was a huge strength through a tough time in my life and helped me to look at others differently.

What if we viewed life through the eyes of our enemies or the most annoying person in your life. What would you see? How would you see you? Passive, Fake, or Gracious, and Kind?

This week for my personal goal I have to do three things a day with sincerity : smile at someone, give a compliment, and ask someone how they're doing. And one of them must be to a complete stranger. I think it will be a good exercise for me. It will get me away from thinking of me to others. Hopefully I'll keep my road rage to a minimum;). Gotta find their value too!

Moderation...Oh My

Am sure all of us can relate to hearing  "moderation in all things..." Applying moderation into our life's can be a challenge in certain areas. Our vices can taunt us: food, television, work, negative thoughts, gossip, not exercising, not eating right, or whatever it may be. We become wrapped up in the stresses of life and unconsciously begin to sabotage ourselves. It's like we are on auto pilot and are willingly waiting for something to go wrong. We either push the emergency button or go in for a crash landing .

Moderation with sweets is very hard for me. I'm a all or nothing kind of gal. If I'm totally off it, I'm good(not to say I still think about it). But if I'm around a buffet of sweets I can't just have one... or two.. or three. Give me a gym I'll work my butt off, but my sweet tooth is the true killer. So how can I be moderate!?

I'll tell ya ,living without out it isn't going to help and is really not realistic. Cause we know what happens soon after, crash landing!! Right now I'm trying a few things. First of course is the challenge ,we have one free day for sweets . For that day I'm going to make(or buy) an unbelievable dessert, something to look forward to. Second ,I'm asking myself is this really satisfying my sweet tooth or am I just eating to eat. Third, I tell myself how great I feel when I'm eating right. Whatever our vice may be we have to remain positive. If you have any suggestions that have helped you with moderation let us know!

Letting Our Talents Shine

Watching Boise State football is one of my favorite things to do.  Maybe I'm biased but I truly think they are much more then just any regular football team! Their success isn't because they're the fastest, biggest, or most athletic. When they played TCU this last Jan. people thought they would loose, even some of their biggest fans had some doubt. They won and it wasn't luck.
How does a team win when the odds are against them? Talent?  A lot of people think talent is natural, that it comes easily. Some talent is that way, but most is developed. It's about hard work, determination, practice, sacrifice, and focus. We become what we do. If we want to be a master or a champion at something we have to put forth the work and have that mindset. To let our talent shine we must let go of what is holding us back: Fear, Rejection, Failure? We don't have to be the best at our talent, we just have to DO our best.
What if we haven't discovered our talent?  I suggest writing an I AM statement. It's a good start to seeing who we are and what we want to become.
Example; I am a loving mother who is fun, I am a beautiful, energetic, confident women....
Discover your talents and passions and incorporate them into getting your dreams.

Making your dreams come to be a reality

As a child I had always wanted to be on a game show. You could call me a game show junkie. I would imagine myself running down the isle of the Price Is Right or beating the clock on Family Feud. I just knew that someday it would be my turn. Three years ago I went on the Price is Right. I prepared by watching the show for 4 straight months. When I got there I just knew they were going to pick me. Everyone in my group thought the same(I did act pumped up the whole time while you're in line for hours!). The guy next to me got called on down( and by the way he did win a car with the audiences help). I was shocked! Did all my energy go to him? I was bummed to say the least. Should that stop me? No, I'm still determined to go on a game show. It will happen. I will run down the isle, or shout out the number one answer.I will be on a game show.
We need to believe that our dreams can come true. We can't listen to the naysayers of the world. Write a short list of dreams that you have. In what ways do they compare to your passions in life? Pick a dream that can work on. What steps do you need to take to make it come a reality?

"You see things and say, 'Why',but I dream things and say 'Why not'"  George Bernard Shaw

My sister in-law shared this with me. It is YUMMY! Mix it up with different fruit if you like.

Spinach Drink
3 handfuls of spinach
1 banana
2 cups pineapple(or favorite) juice

Mix in blender. To make it low calorie replace juice with flavored water or sugar free drink. If you do this you may want to add more fruit.

A Challege For Discovery

I am doing a challege with a whole bunch of women to help discover ourselves in taking care of our bodies and minds. I hope to continue the blog beyond that. So come on gals and let's get motivated!!!
